Britney Spears' bizarre trips to coffee houses, garages and late-night pharmacies came about because the pop star hated life at home without her two kids.

In a candid MTV documentary, which aired in America on Sunday night, the pop singer revealed there was method behind her madness, which seemed to prevail after she divorced husband Kevin Federline, and she attempted to explain her odd trips out which became fodder for the paparazzi over Christmas last year.

Spears told MTV cameras she just didn't want to be home alone: "My babies represented home... and every time I went home, it was like, 'Oh God, I can't be here, so when I was in my car and when I was driving, I was going somewhere."

The Toxic hitmaker revealed she built a dream home in Malibu, California for her family, but when Federline won full custody of their young sons, she couldn't bear to be there - or anywhere else that constituted home.

In the much-publicised documentary, Spears also revealed she longed to be able to go shopping without taking an army of paparazzi with her.

She explained, "Most celebrities have, like, three or four people on them and they can actually get their stroller out and walk their kids to the supermarket.
